How can we ‘Do Football Better’? Lewes FC were featured in the Observer Magazine over the weekend to ask this question. We’re at a pivotal moment for football. The women’s game is growing but it needs support. We need support.
Lewes FC is an independent, fan-owned club with a mission to make a difference. We’re trying to make men’s and women’s football sustainable as a business so it can benefit our communities, and highlight the unjust imbalance that still exists in society! We don’t want the women’s game to merely mirror the top-flight men’s game.
Why not? Because it creates a closed shop where inclusivity, imagination and impact are sidelined. There’s a lot to admire about the professional men’s game but plenty to be ashamed of too. Just read the article for more details.
We launched the See Us As We Are campaign to make a difference and celebrate the unique values that make up women’s football.
We’d like to thank The Observer’s Miranda Sawyer for giving us the chance to show what we’re made of.
We have +2,500 owners who each pay for a single share of the club. We have a network of community teams that deliver amazing work across Lewes and East Sussex. We have sponsors who work as partners to drive impact and force change for good. We have staff and volunteers who ensure our club runs at maximum capacity every day of the year.
But we can always go more. Our distinct ownership model and equity campaigning needs support. If you want to join the Lewes FC movement – or know friends and family who do – then become an owner today!
As Miranda says: “At a moment when the women’s game is growing bigger and bigger, the club’s approach to women’s football is vital, essential for the game to thrive and survive. Because despite its huge surge in popularity, women’s football is at a delicate stage of its development.”
