SUSSEX DISABILITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE: Brighton AITC 1-1 Lewes

Community news

Last Sunday, 19th May, the Lewes Mental Wellbeing team (or Football Therapy as it’s better known) travelled to Lancing to compete in the first round of matches of the SDFL Cup competition (run as a League).

Drawn against a strong Albion In The Community side it was always going to be a tough day at the office and this got even harder when AITC scored early on. However, Lewes reset and took the game back to AITC. To every one of our players’ credit, the team supported each other and then Lewes were in the ascendancy.

Chance after chance to equalise went by until our star striker, Dave Lambert, hit the back of the net! Unfortunately despite further chances there were no further goals. So the game finished 1-1 and it’s all to play for when the current season ends in June.

Every player on both teams played in the right spirit on the final day of what was also Mental Health Awareness Week.

Football Therapy is a partnership between Lewes FC and Southdown Housing, supported by the Sussex County FA, to improve and maintain mental wellbeing through football and related activities.
