Stacey Freeman has recommited to the Rooks for next season and will be joined by youngster Alfie Headland.

Stacey, son of manager Darren, was close to giving up his football career to focus on other work commitments, but has decided to give it another season.

Freeman Jnr returned to action last season after missing all of the 2017/18 promotion campaign with injury. He made 39 appearances for the Rooks last year and got on the scoresheet a couple of times, including an extraordinary 25-yard strike into the top corner against Brightlingsea Regent at the Pan.

“I told him he was too young to retire,” said Darren. “I thought Stacey and Frankie were a very solid partnership throughout last season.”

“Stacey’s other work has become much busier over the past year or so and he’s going to have to juggle his commitments, but I’m obviously pleased he’s going to be back with us for next season.”

Alfie Headland was part of the Under-18s’ double-winning squad last season, and spent some time getting first-team experience at Hasting Utd and Eastbourne Utd. He’ll be fighting for his place in the squad in pre-season, alongside fellow Under-18s graduates such as Ross Barclay, Dylan Gifford and James Waters.
