Player of the match Josh Spinks says delivering a third win on the bounce during Saturday’s 3-1 triumph over Dartford was just what the Lewes FC fans deserved after their commitment to the team this season.
Spinks played a crucial role in the Rooks’ victory, as Danny Bassett’s opener and Marcus Sablier’s late double secured three points at the Pan.
“It’s great to get it from the fans,” said Spinks afterwards. “I thought the boys were brilliant today, such hard work (and) we had real quality going forward in the final third.”
Spinks was quick to praise the unwavering support from the Rooks fans and was happy to give back with three wins on the spin.
“It’s been massive to give back to the fans, we have been poor of late,” he added. “I think that is three or four wins in the last few games, they always turn up in their hundreds, so it is good to give something back.”
Bassett’s goal off his back had given Lewes a first-half lead. A Michael Olarewaju equaliser early in the second put Dartford back in it, but Sablier nudged Lewes back in front after a free kick came bouncing towards him, which he eventually hammered home in emphatic style. He then found the net again in the last minute of stoppage time, controlling a long ball before rolling it past the Dartford keeper.
“Yeah, I haven’t scored in a while,” said Sablier, “so to get one was nice, but to get two was even better.”
Discussing his second goal, in which he brought down a long Parish Muirhead pass brilliantly and calmly placed the ball past the onrushing keeper, Sablier added: “Parish looked up and then I made the run.
“I thought it was offside to be fair, I think that’s why it calmed me down and then I just calmly slotted it into the bottom corner.”
Next up for the Rooks is a trip to the Movie Starr stadium to face Canvey Island on Saturday, as they look to get four wins on the spin. Canvey currently sit 18th in the Isthmian Premier League, with Lewes having a chance to go as high as ninth.
