Men's football news
After numerous cancellations, we finally get to take on fellow East Sussex rivals Shoreham on Wednesday night at the Dripping Pan.
With games in hand over most of our promotion rivals, it will be a good chance for Darren’s squad to extend their lead at the top of the table against basement team Shoreham. He has a strong squad to choose from, although Omar Lawson is still suspended and Alex Malins is unavailable due to his ankle injury.
Our visitors haven’t had the best inaugural season in the Isthmian League. They’ve only picked up four points on the road this season, with a solitary win at Molesey in their last outing thanks to two goals from Sean Roddy which broke their run of five consecutive defeats.
Our home form still remains strong, having taken 37 points from a possible 48 this season and just that one defeat back in October to Corinthian Casuals.
Darren is understandably upbeat in advance of the game: –
“We’ve had a very tough run over the past seven or eight games, probably our toughest stretch of the season. Since the New Year, we’ve had tough away trips to places such as Cray, Thamesmead and Phoenix and remained unbeaten through them all – often on tricky pitches. We’ve only played at home three times in 2018, but we’ve maintained our decent form. The Walton match turned into a lottery on a wet pitch, but we’ve beaten Faversham and fellow promotion contenders Greenwich, and I’m very pleased with how we’ve got through that patch.
The boys have been fantastic. They’ve worked ever so hard on the training pitch and on Saturdays. They’ve taken on board what I’ve tried to get over to them. We’ve got 12 games to the end of the season and hopefully we can continue doing that.
I want to say a big thank you to everyone for supporting the 12th Man game versus Greenwich and thank you for all the contributions. I heard a couple of comments that people couldn’t find buckets to put money into. If you want to donate to the 12th Man you can come and find me in the bar after a game and I’ll buy you a beer in return – I’ll claim the expenses back off the Chairman, of course. Seriously, though we’ll have another 12th Man push for the game versus VCD on the 24th of March, and any donations will be much appreciated.”
Kick off at The Pan on Wednesday is 7:45pm
