Sarah Harvey says the competition within the squad is making it easier to settle into life at Lewes FC following her arrival this summer.
Harvey delivered a Player of the Match performance in Lewes’ goalless draw with Gwalia at the weekend – the Rooks’ third draw in five league games.
In doing so she earned the POTM award: vegetables from the community garden and gifts from English Soap Company.
After receiving her award from special guests Who Gives A Crap, Harvey spoke about the performance and believes there’s more to come from the team.
“It was good out there, we definitely built on our game today and have a lot to take away from it,” she said. “It’s football and we have to capitalise on our opportunities when we get them, which unfortunately we weren’t able to do today.
“It’s a solid draw and not the result we wanted. We definitely have things to build on for next week. It was a good performance but we know we can deliver more.”
Lewes take on Oxford United next weekend and will look to push up to the table after a hard-fought draw at the Pan.
Harvey only arrived in East Sussex this summer but says she’s settling in well as attention turns to next Sunday.
“As soon as we get the video we’ll look at it, share our comments and come training on Wednesday’s we’ll be locked in and ready to go,” she said.
“It’s been a switch-up since I got here, everyone’s been super friendly and there’s such a good, positive and challenging environment.
“It’s nice to feel welcomed but also be part of a group of competitors like myself, who are working together for the same goal. Training is so intense right now and I think that’s why we’re progressing each week. We’re striving to get better and make the collective better – that’s our goal.”
Lewes Women are next in action at the Dripping Pan on Sunday 29 September against Watford (2pm) in the WNL Cup. Meanwhile, our next game at the Pan is the Men’s clash against Hastings United on Saturday (3pm).
Tickets for the Hastings match are on sale now.
