Rooks say hello to Nico

Men's football news

Lewes FC are pleased to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Nico Cotton from Southend United.

Cotton has been with the Shrimpers since he was 13, graduating through the Essex side’s ranks to become a full professional. But after almost a decade at Roots Hall, the 21-year-old is looking for a fresh challenge.

“I’ve been there for eight seasons,” Nico told us after signing his deal with the Rooks earlier this week. “I had a scholarship and was a pro there for three years. Lewes is not too far from where I live and it’s time for me to move on.”

Cotton says the manager sold the club to him. “Once I spoke to Daren and he told me about his coaching style and the way he
likes his teams to play, it was an easy decision,” Nico said. “The club’s just come off the back
of a promotion so it’s clearly a strong group.

“Darren’s given me an opportunity and a platform and I hope I can bring my
qualities to the group.”

Nico can play either on the right wing or behind the striker, and he will further bolster Darren’s attacking options following the signings of Luke Blewden and Nassim Dukali over the summer.

Cotton will be used to the demands of Bostik Premier football, having completed two loan spells with Lowestoft in the previous two seasons.
