Fran Alonso has completed his squad for the 2019-20 season with the addition of Scotland international striker Zoe Ness.
Zoe, 23, joins from Championship team Durham.
She commented: “I’m very excited to be down here on the south coast. After speaking with Fran, I knew Lewes FC was a good environment for me to be in and where I wanted to come next. From knowing how Fran wants us to play on the pitch to how the club Directors operate off the field too.
Everyone has made me feel very welcome here in Lewes, and I have settled very quickly into the team. I’m looking forward to seeing how well this team can do in the League, our Continental Cup group and hopefully including a good run in the FA cup too.
I can’t wait for the season to begin this Sunday at home against Blackburn at the Dripping Pan. We hope to see many fans down this Sunday (1pm KO) and throughout the season too! #LikeLewes”
Fran is also delighted, adding: “I am over the moon with the signing of Zoe. I started to follow her when she was a Scottish U19 international. She scored 19 goals in only 25 appearances for their 19’s which of course caught the eye of every coach in the women game, and made her break into the Scottish senior team. She is only 23 but played in Sweden first division and Scotland senior team so despite been a young player she has loads of international experience.
I had two very long conversations with Zoe to see if we could bring her to Lewes and of course it was very hard, she had a few offers (not surprisingly) some of them from good WSL1 teams. In the end, thanks to our style of play, the players we were able to recruit this summer and our working methodology we were able to show her that Lewes was the best environment for her.
We are all, players and staff, absolutely delighted she is a Rook now! It’s fantastic to be able to confirm that we recruited not only one of the best strikers in the English league but a great person too. Welcome to the Pan Zoe!”
Come along this Sunday and see Zoe and the new squad in action in the first League match of the season versus Blackburn Rovers – Doors open 11:30am, kick off 1pm. Tickets on the gate – adults £10, concessions £5, under 16s FREE.
