Lewes continued their pre-season preparations with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Haywards Heath, reports Tom Harper.
Both teams started on the front foot, with Nathan Stroomberg-Clarke forced into a smart save at his near post early on, before Aaron Cosgrave was unable to get a shot away after a purposeful run into the area just minutes later.
After a bright start, the rest of the half passed with few chances of note.
The closest either side came to taking the lead before the break saw Theo Widdrington send a curling effort straight at Billy Collings in the host’s goal.
The second half was similar to the first, as both sides put in plenty of effort without building up any real spells of pressure.
Despite this, Stroomberg-Clarke had to be alert to make two saves in quick succession just before the hour as Haywards Heath looked to take the lead.
Lewes responded well to this and forced Collings into a double-save of his own to deny Luke Blewden and Cosgrave.
As with the first half, there weren’t any clear-cut chances in the closing stages, as Cosgrave sent a curling shot wide from the edge of the area, before a Haywards Heath substitute missed the target when well placed, but neither side were unable to find a breakthrough.
Lewes continue their pre-season preparations with a trip to South Park for their penultimate friendly on Tuesday, kick-off at 7.45pm.
