Got an old iPad gathering dust at the back of your cupboard? Lewes FC is here to help! We’re continuing our drive towards being a fully sustainable football club by opening our doors for all your unwanted tech.
Every year the UK throws away nearly half a billion small electrical items, and global e-waste is five-times higher than what’s collected for recycling. That’s insane! It’s estimated that each household has 30 unused pieces of tech stuffed in cupboards, on shelves, and down the backs of sofas.
Well, we actually need that tech! Over the summer the club invested in more bar and food facilities, and a new scoreboard. We have also noticed an uptick in online ticket sales for matchdays, which means we require more equipment on the turnstiles to scan you all in before kick off.
This, coupled with the opening of our new club shop and our ambition to capture more footage of life at Lewes FC means we need extra tech and equipment to improve the speed of service for supporters.
It’s not a perfect solution but we’re also dedicated to improving our sustainability and environmental impact – both at the Dripping Pan and the 3G, and across Lewes. We already have solar panels, a vegetable garden, vegan food, use local suppliers, and a successful reusable cup scheme. We want to do more to reduce our impact on the environment and believe we can be a hub for tech recycling in Lewes.
It therefore makes sense for the club to call on you, our supporters, to donate any unused tech items to our staff and volunteers. We will repurpose as many items as we can, and recycle or safely dispose of anything we cannot use.
That means your unused iPad could become the new console for our scoreboard, or your old phone (wiped, of course) is turned into a card reader at the Rook Inn.
We’re particularly looking for tech to help ease the strain on our bar staff, including:
• iPads
• iPhones
• Android phones
- Lewes FC’s ethos is to operate as a sustainable football club for the benefit of our community. This goes beyond financial sustainability and encompasses environmental sustainability too. Doing our bit for the local environment helps the global environment.
Tech repurposing and recycling is another leg in our sustainability efforts – but of course we need your help to make this happen.
So, feel free to drop off unused tech that you feel might benefit the club at the LEWES hospitality building on matchdays or in the Rook Inn during the week.
