Men’s squad update

Men's football news

There have been a few comings and goings in the men’s first team squad over the past week. To help you stay up to date with the squad, here’s what’s happening.

Teddy Bloor has joined the club, as anyone who’s been at the past couple of games may have noticed. Teddy gives us extra cover at right-back, a position that has become almost jinxed with injuries. Steve Brinkhurst is still feeling his way back from long-term injury and Harry Reed injured himself in a freak pre-season accident. Teddy was drafted in during pre-season as cover, but then picked up a nasty ankle injury himself in his first training session with the club. He’s been the first of the three to fully recover, giving us another much-needed option in defence.

Teddy was with the club as a boy, playing for the Under-18s on several occasions. He then won himself a professional contract at Mansfield Town, and has been out on loan to clubs such as Frickley and Stamford. He’s now back playing for his hometown club, where his dad was, of course, assistant manager to Garry Wilson.

Another young full-back who will be back with us for another month is Martyn Box. Boxy made an instant impact after joining from Barnet last month, scoring on his debut at Leatherhead. The 17-year-old will give us cover in the left-back slot as Leon Redwood gets ever closer to match fitness.

Stepping out of the squad for the next couple of months or so is Stacey Freeman. Stacey’s modelling career is taking him to South Africa until Christmas. Although we’re pretty sure his dad will have begged him to commute, even Darren would probably accept that’s a bugger of a journey. We wish Stacey well and hope to see him back in the New Year.

Also on his way out for a month is young midfielder Ross Barclay. Ross has been a first-team squad regular since graduating from our double-winning under-18s in the summer, but Darren wants the youngster to get some much needed game time. He’ll be joining a BetVictor Isthmian South East division side in the next few days. Ross’s fellow under-18s graduate, Dylan Gifford, joined Eastbourne Town on a month’s loan last week.

Finally, the club want to thank Dquame Copeland, who played the final game of his loan spell from Welling United at Brightlingsea Regent yesterday. Best of luck, big man!
