MATCH REPORT: Rooks end the season with a point against AFC Hornchurch

Club news

There was little to report in from the Rooks final game of the season as both teams lacked the cutting edge to grab all three points, reports Stuart Fuller.

After Monday’s draw with Burgess Hill Town, boss Darren Freemen was able to recall Stacey Freeman for his last game before retiring, with Omarr Lawson dropping down to the bench.

There was little in the way of goal-mouth action in the game, with Lewis Carey probably making the pick of the saves with a one handed effort to keep out a late header from close range.

Ben Pope had a speculative effort on goal from the touchline halfway through the first half which the visitor’s keeper had to tip over the bar, whilst Stacey Freeman side-footed a good shooting opportunity over the bar after Michael Dome-Bemwin’s effort had been blocked. Full-back Charles Banya had the Rooks final chance of the first half as he burst through a couple of tackles but his shot lacked power and direction and was easily saved by Chafer.

With ten minutes to go in a fairly tame half, The Rooks best chance fell to Ola Adeyemo after a Dayshonne Golding run and cross to the back post saw the Lewes sub head back across the goal and wide of the far post.

After the full time whistle we presented the awards for the season.

Goal of the Season, sponsored by Brian Ashdown, went to James Hammond for this effort away at Worthing (fast forward to 4:20).

Most improved Player of the Season, also sponsored by Brian Ashdown, also went to James Hammond.

Young Player of the Season went to Harry Reed.

Player of the Season went to Lewis Carey.
