Maybe not the best day to host a football vets competition but the hottest day of the year saw Lewes FC Men’s Vets win the annual Lewes tournament for the first time.
A convincing second half performance in the final saw them beat Londoners Ladbroke Rovers 3-0, with a brace from Steve Keegan and Tim Bassett dinking in a third with the last kick of the game.
Both semis had been much tighter affairs with the Lewes FC vets under a lot of pressure in a 0-0 draw with Southdown Spurs. They showed more composure in the penalty shoot out winning 4-1. In the other semi Ladbroke Rovers had an exciting 2-2 draw with MNF FC and it went to the 12th penalty in the shoot out 6-5.
It was very hot, very very hot and all teams were relieved to sit down and watch the Champions League Final directly after.
