A goal-fest at the Dripping Pan in which Shae Hutchinson bagged four saw Lewes FC safely through to the first round of the FA Trophy with a 6-3 victory over Bracknell Town on Saturday.
Hutchinson opened the scoring just four minutes in when drilling home a low shot off after a smart break from Eddie Allsopp.
The same combination doubled Lewes’ lead on 17 minutes when Hutchinson beat the offside trap to slide in his second. Two minutes later and he’d completed his hat-trick, as he rounded off a well-worked team goal in front of the Philcox Stand.
Marcus Sablier came within inches of making it four shortly afterwards but Lewes didn’t have to wait long for the net to bulge again. This time it was Matty warren who sold his man a dummy to cut onto his left foot and drill home from just inside the box.
The Rooks went into half time in total command and it got even better four minutes into the second half when Parish Muirhead hedged Hutchinson through for his fourth of the afternoon.
But Bracknell then rallied. Ethan Kaiser dragged a man down in the box for a penalty, which Sam Ashton duly dispatched. Ashton then made it 5-2 when reacting first to a Toby Bull save on 60 minutes.
Jerry Puemo was then sent off, before Joe Dandy bagged Bracknell’s third from the subsequent free kick.
Lewes held their own despite being down to 10 men but Bracknell soon joined them, with Darny Hamson picking up a second yellow. And, as the clock ticked into the 90, Tolu Ladapo popped up to finish off a move down the left flank and secure put the game beyond doubt.
The win means Lewes enter the first round of the FA Trophy, with the draw taking place on Monday.
Next up for the Rooks is an Isthmian Premier League home clash with Billericay Town on Saturday 12 October at 3pm. Tickets for the match at the Dripping Pan are available online at a discount compared to the gate.
