Lewes Football Club has received strong backing from its ownership community to explore external investment into the Women’s First Team — a step aimed at strengthening the future of the entire club.
An advisory vote was held from July 24–28, engaging the club’s 2,000+ owners. They were asked to what extent they supported the Board’s proposal to seek strategic investment in Lewes FC Women, including, if necessary, selling a majority stake to an aligned investor.
This forms part of a wider strategy to build long-term sustainability across all areas of the club — including the men’s team and community football programmes.
The vote results were:
Strongly agree: 234 (47.4%)
Agree: 155 (31.4%)
Undecided: 28 (5.7%)
Disagree: 33 (6.7%)
Strongly disagree: 44 (8.9%)
Nearly 80% of participating owners supported the direction of travel, giving the Board a clear mandate to move forward.
While the immediate focus is on unlocking the potential of Lewes FC Women — the club’s most investable asset — the broader goal is to deliver benefits across the whole Lewes FC ecosystem. This includes enhanced financial resilience, improved facilities at the Dripping Pan, and stronger support for both men’s and community football.
The process of identifying and meeting with potential investors will now continue with renewed focus. While confidentiality will necessarily limit how much can be shared during negotiations, the club remains committed to transparency and will publish further updates as soon as possible.
The Board recognises that this is an important and sometimes emotive issue for supporters. We are grateful to everyone — whatever their view — for engaging with the process and for their continued trust and commitment to the club’s future. We do not take this support for granted.
