Lewes FC have drawn Charlton Athletic away in the third round of the Women’s FA Cup.

The Rooks beat AFC Sudbury 3-0 on Sunday to secure safe passage to the third round, which incorporates Women’s Championship teams into the draw.

Lewes’ trip to Charlton will take place on Sunday 8 December.

The draw, held on Monday morning, maintained the regional split between northern and southern clubs.

Unfortunately, a glitch in the official live stream meant fans of not just Lewes FC were left in the dark over who their clubs were facing in the Football Association’s premier club competition.

Lewes FC have since 2018 been campaigning for equal prize money in the FA Cup in relation to the men’s tournament. The inequality is a public sign of disrespect for the women’s game. It costs the same to host, play in, watch, and facilitate FA Cup matches whether you’re a men’s or a women’s team.

The lack of resources in the competition were laid bare on Sunday when we had to wait more than half an hour for an ambulance for treat one of our players, as such medical provision is not provided. No one is perfect but the glitch in the live stream on Monday is just another example of how this competition is not valued the same as the men’s. Just imagine if the Men’s FA Cup third round broadcast buffered and switched off midway through.
