Jordy joins up for new season

Men's football news

Promising young forward Jordy Mongoy has become the latest player to sign for Darren Freeman’s Rooks.

Jordy spent last season at Hastings, where he netted a total of 17 goals and 10 assists. The versatile young forward can play as a striker, on the left wing or behind the striker in the number 10 role, giving Darren more options in his forward line.

Mongoy came through the youth ranks at Dagenham & Redbridge, before moving to Billericay Town. He spent last season with our Sussex rivals, where he caught Darren’s eye.

Jordy said he’s looking forward to pushing on this season. “I know that the gaffer is a very good gaffer,” he told us. “He’s seen me play a few times and wants to help me incorporate what I do on the pitch to help the team. I like the way Lewes play and I’m looking forward to it.”

Darren, meanwhile, is pleased to have bolstered his forward line, after the post-season departures of Luke Blewden and Ben Pope. “Jordy is young, only 20, but he’s 6ft 2in, pacey and he can play in a number of positions across the top three,” the manager said. “I feel we relied too much on certain players to get goals last season. It was important for us to bring in someone who can score in any of those positions.”

Jordy becomes our fourth summer signing, following the captures of goalkeeper Billy Collings, defender Zach Fagan and midfielder Bradley Wilson. And we’ve not finished there – keep your eyes on the site and social media for news of more signings in the days to come.
