Lewes FC is a semi-professional football club, with a women’s team currently playing in the FA Women’s Championship and a men’s team playing in the Isthmian Premier Division. We are the only club in the world to provide equal pay to our male and female players, and are at the forefront of social change, revolutionising the culture around football on and off the pitch.
We are looking for a Financial Controller to run the club’s finance function. You will be an enthusiastic self-starter, ideally with an accounting qualification and familiarity with current accounting software (Xero and similar). We aim to manage our finances in an exemplary manner and with a high degree of transparency.
This is a full-time role intended to average 40 hours per week. Hours are flexible and those worked in any particular week will vary based on a number of factors including the schedule of matches and events. You will be expected to attend home matches for both of the club’s first teams to ensure that cash management and internal controls are functioning correctly.
Responsibilities include:
•Produce monthly management accounts
•Monitor ongoing progress against budget
•Raise invoices and manage receivables
•Implement new accounting software package
•Ensure that Lewes FC meets HMRC’s Making Tax Digital requirements
•Prepare quarterly VAT returns for two legal entities
•Run weekly payroll
•Perform monthly bank reconciliations
•Cash management
•Review and improve system of internal controls
•Work with the Board to develop the annual budget
•Attend and minute Board meetings
•Perform some company secretarial duties (e.g. FCA and Companies House returns)
•Produce draft year-end accounts and liaise with external auditors
