Club news
Whilst we do not know when the next Isthmian League season will start, preparations continue behind the scenes in building our squad. After two fantastic seasons with the Under18s squad, four of our most promising youngsters have been promoted to the first team squad.
Central Midfielder Tegan Freeman made a dozen appearances for the first team last season and scored his first senior goal in the 2-0 League Cup win over Sevenoaks Town in December.
Left-back Nic D’Arienzo made three first team starts last season and can also play at centre-back.
Midfielder Brad Santos had a season to remember before it was brought to an end in March, playing at Southern Combination League table toppers Lancing and being included in the Sussex Under18s that reached the National County Final, England Schoolboys squad for the game against Australia.
Last but not least right-hand sider James Beresford was also in the Sussex Under18s side last season.
All four were integral in the success of Dale Hurley’s side that were on course for the treble before the season ended.
Manager Hugo Langton said on bringing the four into his senior squad for next season:
“I’m really pleased that we have these four in the squad. All have come through our exciting U18 set up and it highlights the great work Dale has been doing. It’s vital that as a club we promote these young players, as if we don’t then someone else will give them their chance.”
Chairman Stuart Fuller echoes Hugo’s words:
“It’s no secret in Sussex that our Under18s are the team to beat and now we are able to promote some of those outstanding youngsters to play with our senior players. There’s something special about watching players we have developed progressing and I cannot wait to see how all four will make an impact for Lewes next season.”
More squad news will follow in the coming weeks.
