Men's football news
The Rooks will be looking to continue their fine run of recent form which has seen them win eight out of their last ten games when Horsham YMCA are the visitors to the Pan in the Second Round of the Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup. Our visitors beat Billingshurst in Round One and come into the game on the back of three consecutive Southern Combination wins, including a notable 1-0 victory over title favourites Haywards Heath Town.
They are currently in 8th place in the table after a 2-0 win on Saturday against Pagham, not too far away from the top spots and with two teams likely to be promoted to the Isthmian League at the end of the season, will have their eyes on climbing the table in the coming weeks and months.
Darren Freeman will look to rotate his squad with the FA Trophy tie against Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday in mind, although this is a competition he will be taking seriously, having won the cup six years ago with Whitehawk. Alex Malins is definitely out with an ankle injury, whilst Harry Reed is still struggling after picking up a knock with the Under18s.
Last season The Rooks were defeated in Round Three by Whitehawk at the Pan, having beaten Broadbridge Heath after extra-time thanks to a Ronnie Conlon goal in Round Two. Horsham YMCA’s campaign ended at the same stage as The Rooks with a 3-0 home defeat to Crawley Town.
It has been three years since Lewes last appeared in the final, losing to Whitehawk (again!) and twelve since they last lifted the trophy, against Horsham at Priory Lane back in 2006. Horsham YMCA’s have yet to appear in a final of the competition since its inception back in 1883.
Kick off at The Pan on Wednesday is 7:45pm. Admission is £6 for Adults, £3 for Concessions and anyone attending in Bonfire attire. Under16s are admitted free of charge if accompanied by an adult.
