Men's football news

After the euphoria of Saturday’s fantastic win at Corinthian-Casuals, The Rooks return to the Dripping Pan on Wednesday night for the visit of Horsham in the re-arranged Bostik League South game from Easter Monday.

Saturday’s win did come at a cost though with both Charlie Coppola and Jamie Brotherton withdrawn during the games with niggles, whilst James Hammond missed the game due to a calf strain. However, all three could be back in contention for Wednesday night as Darren looks to continue the search for vital points as the race for promotion and the title hots up. Also back in the squad is keeper Chris Winterton who missed Saturday’s game.

Horsham squad has a familiar look these days with former Rooks Dean Bown, Alfie Rogers, Curtis Gayler, Josh Street and of course George Landais all featuring in recent games.

Horsham inflicted a painful reminder of their threat in the game between the two sides on New Year’s Day when goals from Charlie Harris and Hakeem Adelakun gave them a 2-0 lead before the 15 minute mark. Gus Sow pulled one back in the second half but it was a disappointing start to the New Year for the Rooks. Last season they did the double over Lewes with a 3-0 win at Goring Mead and a 2-1 victory at the Pan at Christmas.

The Rooks home form is still impressive, the second best in the division with 46 points from 20 games so far (2.3PPG) is actually the best in the Bostik League South, with only the two defeats, to Corinthian-Casuals and Carshalton Athletic, so far this season, whilst Horsham have taken 29 points on the road so far this season, including the excellent away win at South Park on Saturday thanks to goals from new loan signing Shane Cojocarel (x 2) and Charlie Farmer.

Results elsewhere in the Bostik League South on Tuesday night mean that the Rooks are just three points from securing their place back in the Bostik League Premier Division so Wednesday night’s game could see The Rooks promoted.

Kick off on Wednesday at The Pan is 7:45pm. Admission is £11 for Adults, £6 for Concessions and Kids go Free when accompanied by an adult.
