Hammo signs new deal

Talented midfielder James Hammond has committed himself to the Rooks by signing a new contract with the club.

Hammo was one of the first players to join the club when Darren Freeman arrived as manager in 2015, and he’s since become a mainstay of the midfield. He was the club’s second top goalscorer last season, nabbing 11 goals in 47 appearances, including the goal of the season when he scored from within his own half away at Worthing.

Hammond, 22, has agreed a new one-year deal with an option to extend that further into 2020/21.

Darren Freeman is delighted to have the young midfielder on board. “Hammo’s developed into a quality player,” said the manager. “He gets goals, he works hard, and he’s a leader on the pitch. He’s a local lad too, and exactly the kind of player we want to build a club around.”

“I’ve seen Hammo develop over the past five years and there’s plenty more to come from him,” Darren added.

Hammo said the progress being made on the pitch was a big factor in him re-committing to the club. “I’m pleased to have signed another contract at Lewes,” he told us. “I’ve enjoyed my years so far and just want to continue the journey we are on as a team and to continue improving as a player under Daz, Ross and Codge.”
