Lewes FC Women’s First Team Manager Emma Byrne has been nominated for the Premier Division – December Manager of the Month award.
December proved to be a standout month for Emma and her Rooks, beginning with a thrilling 3–2 away victory over unbeaten title contenders Watford on the first Sunday of the month. That result was followed by a spirited and disciplined performance against WSL 2 side Crystal Palace in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup the following weekend. Together, the two fixtures highlighted just how far the team has progressed since the start of the season.
The win against Watford was particularly memorable, marking a second consecutive 3–2 away victory against the hosts in as many seasons. Goals from Olivia Carpenter and Leah Lane gave Lewes a commanding 2–0 lead at half-time. Watford responded strongly after the break, levelling the score midway through the second half, but the Rooks showed resilience and belief, continuing to create chances of their own. The decisive moment came in the 85th minute, when Rebekah Trewhitt produced a powerful run and composed finish to seal a dramatic win. Leah Lane was central to the performance, contributing a goal and two assists.
The following weekend brought an equally demanding challenge, as Lewes faced Crystal Palace in a live televised FA Cup tie on TNT Sports. In front of the women’s highest attendance of the season, the Rooks delivered a committed and organised display, creating several opportunities that tested the Palace defence and showcasing their ability to rise to the occasion on a big stage.
