Men's football news
Alongside new signing Zach Fagan, we’re pleased to announce a host of defenders will be staying with the Rooks for 2019-20.
Captain Frankie Chappell is the first to re-sign, now entering his third season at the Pan. Frankie was voted Player of the Season in our promotion season of 2017-18 and was a near ever-present part of the defence last season.
Fellow centre-back Tom Day has also agreed to be part of the 2019-20 squad. The young centre-back joined from Eastbourne Borough last season and played right across the back line to cover injuries.
Both Steve Brinkhurst and Leon Redwood had their seasons cut short by injury last year. Both have been working hard with physio Xavier Smith over the past few weeks and we hope both will be ready to return to the squad for pre-season training when it commences in late June.
Pushing them for a place in the full-back berths will be Harry Reed, who has now racked up more than 50 appearances for the Rooks, after graduating from our youth ranks.
The gaffer also hasn’t given up hope of convincing his son, Stacey Freeman, to change his mind over retirement. “As a father, I’ve told him he’s too young to retire,” said Darren. “He’s had work commitments and he’s heading in a different direction with his career, but hopefully we can persuade him to carry on.”
We’ll be releasing more news about players who have re-signed in the coming days and weeks.
