Lewes FC is pleased to announce the next step in its ‘Refill not Landfill’ initiative to minimise plastic waste.
Starting with this weekend’s pair of men’s and women’s fixtures, the current £1 charge to purchase a ‘Refill not Landfill’ cup at The Dripping Pan’s bars will be refundable.
The £1 cost for a cup will be a deposit that can be returned to you after the end of the match.
Until the 2024-25 season, Lewes FC used throw-away plastic cups for pouring drinks, at a cost that ran into thousands of pounds over the course of a season.
These cups were thrown away and ended up in the Newhaven incinerator. When reusable cups were introduced in 2024-25, the reliance on single-use plastic cups was slashed to zero.
The club is now taking the next exciting step of introducing a deposit scheme for the reusable cups.
You now have the choice to either keep your cup, or return it after the full-time whistle and have the £1 fee returned to you.
The maximum refund will be £2 (ie, a pair of cups) per person, and will be done via £1 coins.
The introduction of cup deposits has been made possible by the energy and dedication of Lewes FC’s volunteers and the Supporters Club.
These volunteers will be at each exit gate at full-time, assisting in returning deposits.
Please be advised that no cup deposit refunds will be made before or during the match, or at any bars, food outlets or tills.
Cup amnesty
In addition to launching the cup deposit scheme, Lewes FC will also be running a cup amnesty for the next five home games, starting this weekend against Ramsgate (men, Saturday) and Plymouth Argyle (women, Sunday).
So, if you’ve got any ‘Refill not Landfill’ Lewes FC cups at home, bring them along and exchange them for some discount vouchers.
You will be able to return your cups to our volunteer team outside the gates before kick-off.
In return, you will get a £1 discount voucher per cup (max £5 per person) that can be used for match day tickets or food and drink.
Please note that vouchers will only be valid on the same day of issue.
The amnesty closes at kick-off; no vouchers will be issued after kick-off or inside the ground.
