Bosma sent to Coventry

Men's football news

Lewes midfielder Bouwe Bosma has signed for League One side
Coventry City.

Bosma made 37 appearances for the Rooks this season, scoring
seven goals – including a memorable lobbed strike in our trip to Guernsey in
October.

Bosma was spotted by Coventry’s scouts earlier this season.
The Sky Blues allowed Bosma to finish the season with the Rooks before completing
his signing this morning.

Lewes manager Darren Freeman is sorry to see the midfielder
go, but says it’s another sign of how the club helps develop young players for
professional careers. “That’s the sort of club we are, we’re not going to stand
in a player’s way. That’s another player who’s gone on to a professional club
and hopefully that shows young players that we can help them achieve their dreams.”

Bouwe has impressed everyone at the club with his professionalism
since signing last summer. The player made the two-hour journey from his home in
Southampton to Lewes for training twice a week, yet was still often the first
player at the training ground. Darren says he deserves his chance at the professional
game. “Bouwe’s a good, hard-working lad and I wish him all the very best at Coventry.”

Bouwe says he’s enjoyed his season with the Rooks. “Everyone’s
been unreal – the lads have been unreal, the fans have been unreal,” he told
us. “I’ve loved it, absolutely loved it. And getting promotion was the icing on
the cake.”

The 22-year-old says the interest from Coventry came out of the blue. “I
didn’t expect it, to be honest,” he said of of the approach from the Sky Blues.
“I kept my head down and just worked hard. This is my first full season,
really, where I’ve been involved most of the time and I’ve really enjoyed this
year.”

Everyone at the club wishes Bouwe all the best for his professional
career.
