Club news
I am standing to join the Board of
Directors at Lewes FC as I want to, and believe I can, give the Club the
impetus to push on from its current position. The Club has received fantastic
coverage in the local and national press recently due to the Equality FC
initiative and we have to maintain this momentum.
I have been following Lewes FC for 5
years and have had a season ticket for the last 3 seasons. My first Rooks game was the Boxing Day home game against Bognor in 2012. I was
impressed with so many things that day: the ground, the atmosphere, the
friendly banter, the ticket price, the match day posters, the ability to stand,
to move around, and to enjoy a pint while watching the game. The result was
good too! Almost everything was better than what I was used to
experiencing in the higher leagues. I’ve researched train timetables, pubs,
off-licences; I’ve missed family occasions, children’s birthdays, and evening
functions to follow the Men’s team.
My focus will be on attracting investors
and sponsors with the aim of pushing the Men’s first team as high up the league
ladder as possible. We have a great infrastructure at the Club with Darren and
Ross spearheading a youthful and skilful side, and great young talents in the
under 18s. With the recent unfair
restrictions placed on Ladies’ teams from smaller clubs like ours, this can
only improve if the Men’s team climbs the league ladder. Therefore success of
the Men’s first team has to be the vision for the Club as a whole.
I’d like the Club to
promote itself more widely in a greater geographical area to attract the
increasing number of disillusioned fans of higher league clubs. There is
a growing number of fans who, much like myself, are fed up with getting ripped
off and treated like cattle. We have so much to offer at Lewes FC and I
believe that there are many football fans within an easy travelling distance
who are unaware of what we have here, and who would embrace the
Club.
I am founder and managing director of a
Sussex-based travel business which started in 2002 and now employs 17 people. I
have volunteered at the Club, and my Company sponsors the Lewes FC Golf Day. My
skills are in business acumen and the ability to communicate with people. I
hope to carry these proficiencies onto the board at Lewes FC and enable the
club to become self funding and self sufficient. With the right people at the helm, we can
build a bigger and better Club.
There are many skills on the board
currently. I don’t really possess the ability to tell the difference between
the next Charlie Coppola or the next Charlie Chaplin but I can bring 15 years
of business insight and passion.
If you vote for me, I promise to do my best for this great Club of ours.
Best wishes, Jon Ruben
