Women's football news

After 13 months in charge, the board of Lewes FC have accepted the resignation of women’s First Team Manager Fran Alonso. Fran will be making a further announcement soon regarding his future.

Alonso has recruited a fine array of playing talent at Lewes and has also built a formidable coaching staff. Assistant Manager Simon Parker steps up to take immediate charge, supported by Jesus Cordon. Before joining the Rooks, Simon was First Team Manager at Southampton Women FC where, over a four-year career he had a League win rate of 88%.

Fran commented: “Coming to Lewes FC has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, I enjoyed every minute at the Club and in the town and I am sad to leave. The Club has been always great to me and to my family and I am forever grateful, I leave so many good friends and I look forward to seeing Lewes FC achieve their ambitious goals, which I am sure they will. Huge thank you to the chairman, the board of directors, the GMs, the players, staff and fans for sharing with me this fantastic journey.

Co-Head of Women’s Football Roger Warner added: “We truly wish Fran all the best. Of course, it’s been a tough few months on the pitch, but Fran has created so many positive changes at Lewes from which we can now build. With Simon, we have a superb Manager in his own right too, so asking him to step up was an easy decision.

Simon takes charge for Lewes’ next match, which is at home to London Bees on Sunday, January 19th. KO 2pm.
