Chichester College 0 – 3 Newman-Lewes FC Academy

Newman-Lewes travelled to Havant, West Sussex to play Chichester College in the
Sussex Colleges League this week. The match was played as a double-header,
meaning whichever team won the game would take 6 points for the win, adding a
further edge to the contest.

Both teams played some impressive football but it was the busy
Lauren Amerena who broke the deadlock, driving the ball home left-footed after
a strong run through the home defence. Both teams were committed in the challenge
and quick to the ball, keeping the referee alert as a number of strong tackles
were exchanged.
Chichester’s keeper was the busier of the two, dealing well with a series of
shots and sweeping up well behind her back line. HT 0-1.

The second half saw a similar pattern, with both teams playing some good
football but Newman-Lewes having more goal scoring opportunities. Once again
the Chichester keeper was called into action, thwarting efforts from Amerena,
Rowbotham and Quinn in quick succession. Newman-Lewes extended their lead when Emily
Linscer, playing at centre back, strode forward with the ball, passed two
players before playing a one-two with Jamie Quinn and finished with a low shot
into the bottom corner. 0-2.

Newman Lewes secured all six points with the best move of the match. They
attacked down the right, the ball drilled across the six yard box and Maguy
Mouvogny scored with a high-quality finish, flicking the ball with the inside
of her right foot behind her left and into the far corner off the post. Shades of
Gianfranco Zola of Chelsea, a great end to the match with Newman claiming all 6
points.
