Lewes FC are pleased to announce versatile wide player Tyler Cox as the club’s latest summer signing for the 2026-27 Isthmian League Premier season.

Cox, who featured in last Saturday’s 2-1 pre-season win at Rusthall, can play on either side of the pitch, as a wing back or higher up in a more attacking role.

A former Stevenage youth player, he has a proven track record at Step 4 level in non-league and is now ready to establish himself at Step 3 with Lewes.

“Tyler was a player we were really keen to bring in because every successful squad needs players with his versatility,” said Lewes FC men’s first team manager Craig Nelson.

“He can play at right-back, left-back, on the right or left wing and wherever you ask him to play, you know you’re going to get a consistent, committed performance.

“What really stands out is his tenacity and work ethic.

“He gives absolutely everything every time he steps onto the pitch, never shirks a challenge and always puts the team first.

“Those are qualities you can’t have enough of in a dressing room, and I’m looking forward to seeing the impact he’ll have for us throughout the season.”

Cox captained Sutton Common Rovers in the 2022-23 Isthmian League South Central, leading the team in appearances and scoring in the promotion-relegation playoffs to keep the team at Step 4.

He then joined Leatherhead for 2023-24, again making the most appearances and this time helping his side finish third in the South Central table. Cox also starred in the play-offs, scoring in the semi-final and subsequent penalty shootout.

Those performances with Leatherhead drew the attention of Aveley, then part of the National League South, and Cox made the move to the Essex outfit in March 2024.

A loan spell at Whitehawk enabled him to make his Step 3 debut in the Isthmian Premier, followed by a stint at Kingstonian and a return to Leatherhead.

Last season Cox played for Raynes Park Vale in the Isthmian South Central, making 25 appearances and scoring six goals.

“I spoke to Pitts who outlined everything for me – the way they play, and what my role would be in the team – and the conversation went well,” said Cox of his move to The Dripping Pan.

“It was no brainer. Lewes is a good club with a good background and fans.

“I’ve played left wing, right wing, left and right wing-back. Left-back and right-back – I’ve played in the 10 as well! That versatility is another thing Pitts has brought me in for.

“Last year I got rid of an injury that set me back a bit. The year before I was moving to different clubs… this year [the aim] is to be settled and play as much football as possible.”
