We are thrilled to announce the signing of striker, Tommy Wood.

Tommy, 24, has been training with Tony Russell’s side and played in last weekend’s friendly vs. Ramsgate.

Tommy joins us from Tonbridge Angels in the National League South and has previous experience in this division with Burgess Hill Town and Leatherhead.

His bright spell at Leatherhead scoring six in eight, earned him a move to Tonbridge Angels, where he scored 12 goals in 33 games in the 21/22 NLS season.

Manager, Tony Russell, had this to say on the signing: “With JT wanting to move on, we had to move fast, so to get Tommy in so soon after JT leaving was a real relief.

“Tommy is not JT, just like JT wasn’t Michael Power all them years ago. Every player brings something different to the table, and it’s essential we don’t compare players.

“Tommy will get my full backing and coaching, just like every forward I have worked with. Sherwin Stanley, Michael Power, and JT have all been backed and coached, and all went on to score 25 plus a season, so I have no doubt Tommy will do the same.

“In fact, I would say he is probably in front of them when you look at the facts. He is only 24 yet has 80 men’s games under his belt, mainly above step 3, ranging from League 1 & 2 to step 2 He has only played 13 games at step 3 and has scored 11 goals.

“All the feedback says he is also a great young man. So I know the fans are upset to see JT go, but if someone doesn’t want to play for the club we have to move on.

“We sold a player who is 31 going on 32 for very good money and brought in a 24-year-old for free who I honestly think, if you, the fans, get behind, will turn out to be an excellent signing for Lewes.

“He has lost his way a bit, I can see that, but with a little work and a lot of belief from us all, he will be a great player for us you wait and see.”

Welcome to Lewes, Tommy!
