New ‘Poster Boy’ for Lewes FC Women – Lewes Community Football Club

New ‘Poster Boy’ for Lewes FC Women

Women's football news

Lewes FC Women have harnessed the skill of Lewes-based Pop Artist Chris
Arran to illustrate their match day posters for their first season in the new FA Women’s Championship league.

In May of this year Lewes FC Women successfully applied to be in the
FA’s new Championship Tier – the second highest in women’s football –  on the back of  a great season’s football and their Equality
FC  and Unlock the Gate campaigns. Last
year the football club became the first in the world to assign equal playing
budgets to its men’s and women’s teams, and women were specifically encouraged
to come and support the women’s team in solidarity with the Club’s groundbreaking
stance on equality in football.

Chris Arran
said: “I am so excited about making posters for a club whose values are so
close to my own. Doesn’t everyone want men and women to receive the same pay,
whether that is in football or anywhere else? I am hoping these posters are
going to have a significant impact in Lewes and beyond, and draw people to the
women’s football matches.

Lewes FC
Director Charlie Dobres said: “Chris is an amazing artist and we are so lucky
that he has agreed to help us promote the club’s values and our women’s team.
As a result of our recent promotion, we will be up against some tough
opposition this season, such as Spurs and Manchester United, so we really need
the town to get behind us and support our women.

Chris, previously Course Leader of the award-winning BA Illustration
degree at Southampton Solent University, will use his colourful, impactful Pop
Art to fulfil a creative brief for the team. Each poster will feature an inspirational
woman from the Away team’s locality, along with a Lewes FC Women footballer. A Limited Edition run of just 50 large prints will be available to buy in the POSTER gallery on the club website.

To support the Club, which is 100% fan-owned and intent on creating
value in the community, come along to a match or become an owner for just £30 a
year.
