Goodbye to Gus – Lewes Community Football Club

Goodbye to Gus

Men's football news

Midfielder Gus Sow has left the club to join our new Bostik Premier rivals Merstham.

The club agreed to release Gus from his contract for an undisclosed fee, after the popular midfielder spent two seasons with us here at Lewes.

The Londoner requested a move to a club closer to home, after finding it increasingly difficult to get back and forth for training and matches. “I’m sorry to be going, but the travelling was just getting too much for me,” said Gus.”I’ve loved it here, especially the promotion, and I wish Daz and the boys well.”

Gus made 42 appearances for the Rooks last season, scoring six times. And Darren Freeman is sorry to see the midfielder go. “Gus is a good player, but he wanted a move back closer to London. We tried to convince him to stay, but I need players here who are 100% committed and who can make it to every training session. It’s going to be a tough league this season and we can’t afford to have players missing sessions because of travel.

“Gus is a great lad and I want to thank him for everything he’s done for us, and I wish him all the best for the future.”
