As reported by the BBC, analysis has found that in the last seven years, registered girls football teams in England have doubled.
Even more incredible for us, Sussex has had the third-highest uptick with now 489 registered teams compared to 167 in 2017.
It has also been seven years since Equality FC was born at Lewes, and we’d like to think that our work has played a part.
In 2017, we became the FIRST professional or semi-professional club in the world to start treating its women footballers the same as its men – the same playing budgets, same pitch, same training facilities. Not only did we think this was fair, we also believed in the business sense of investing properly in our two lead products.
Equality has worked. And not just because of increased attendances, more people becoming Owners or bigger sponsorships. It’s worked because we know the incredible stereotype-busting life lessons football can offer girls, and because so many young girls in Lewes, and beyond, tell us how inspired and happy it makes them. That is our impact. And that is priceless.
