A fond farewell to AND from Duncan

Club news

There may not have been much football at The Pan in recent months but one man who has been there almost every day to ensure everything is kept ready for the restart of the beautiful game is Duncan Thompson. However, as of Monday his smiling face won’t be facing the Philcox Stand but out to sea as Duncan is heading off on his adventures on the water.

Always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty with an entry into the Guinness Book of Records as having the largest bunch of keys humanly possible, Duncan was truly our 12th Man and without his help, there would have been no football at the Pan. He will be missed on a matchday by many fans but truly missed by the club every day. Not only was he our Odd-Job Man extraordinaire but was part of the team that published our brilliant Men’s Matchday Progcast.

We wish him all the best for his forthcoming adventures and be sure that when he does return to the Pan for a visit there will be no shortage of Harvey’s on the bar for him.

Duncan couldn’t leave without sending a message out to everyone before he set sail:

“I’m sorry I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye, I feel as if I’ve slipped away under cover of lockdown. Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for all your support and for making the job such fun. The best part was making so many new friends.

I’m sad to be leaving, but I’m not getting any younger and it seems like time to try something new. We did a few sums, none of which added up, but then why let a few sums stand in your way? I’m really just dropping out, only I’m old enough to call it retirement which sounds more respectable. We’ve picked up a bargain-basement canal boat and plan to see England at a (very) leisurely pace. We’ll be back on dry land to over-winter in Lewes every year, and I’m already looking forward to catching up with everyone for a few beers and some football before too long. Till then take care, Love and best wishes, Duncan”
