I have admired Lewes FC since the club began making national headlines for their equal pay commitments. Hearing Club Director Ed Ramsden speak at a conference during the 2019 Women’s World Cup and seeing the club appoint Maggie Murphy as GM, I was certain that this was a club doing things differently (and better) than their rivals.
On my first visit to The Dripping Pan in January 2020, I unexpectedly ended up borrowing a trumpet and joining the Brass Band for the day, quickly learning Sussex by the Sea for repeated renditions!
So, it is fair to say that I appreciate the ethos of Lewes FC from all angles. I want Lewes FC to succeed and be a role model for other clubs in the UK and around the world.
I am the Founder of Goal Click, a global documentary storytelling organisation helping people understand the world and each other through football. From Sierra Leone and Pakistan to the UK, we find people to tell compelling stories about their own football lives and communities – through photography, written word, short film, and exhibitions. We even worked with Katie Rood while she was a Lewes FC player!
Over the past three years I have personally built and scaled Goal Click from nothing to a sustainable social business through sponsorship and partnerships with organisations including adidas, UEFA, Premier League, hummel, and New York City FC.
I have also created partnerships with Amnesty, Homeless World Cup, and UNHCR, The UN Refugee Agency. Through my media contacts, Goal Click has been profiled regularly in international media, including The Guardian, New York Times, BBC, and Forbes.
My experience of creating Goal Click shows that with the right story, purpose, and drive, an organisation with potential can make a real impact in the world – I feel similarly about Lewes FC.
My background is in the sports industry, predominantly in sponsorship and media. I am a trustee of football and sustainability charity Football For Future. My personal network in the football industry is wide-ranging and am heavily involved in the world of football for social good.
In terms of my expertise, I believe I can offer several capabilities:
- Through my network, I am confident that my involvement in Lewes can attract new individuals to become owners and new organisations to become collaborators. Lewes FC can be a lightning rod for collective action – and I would reach out to other clubs and organisations to build and mobilise football coalitions both nationally and internationally around key issues, such as equal FA Cup prize money.
- I can support the club’s continued search for new commercial partners (and maximise relationships with existing partners), as shown by my sponsorship background and current work building partnerships through Goal Click.
- Using my contacts and experience, I can help the club develop its storytelling in public and in the media, both nationally and internationally.
Thank you for considering my application and I hope to become a Board member of Lewes FC.
