New keeper set to make his debut against Borough
24/1/12
Lewes boss Simon Wormull has signed Polish goalkeeper Pawel Szelemej ahead of tomorrow’s Sussex Senior Cup Quarter Final against Eastbourne Borough.
Twenty-one year old Szelemej recently moved to England, and up to last season was playing professionally in the fourth tier of Polish Football for KS Huragan-Morag.
He has been training with the club for the last month, and with the confirmation of his international clearance alongside Rikki Banks' unavailability due to being cup tied - and the small matter of the game being against his parent club - the Polish stopper gets his opportunity to impress the new boss.
Wormull commented “Pawel has impressed in training with both his ability and attitude. With Banksy unavailable, he has a great opportunity to impress, and what better game than a local derby in the Quarter Final of a cup.”
Questioned on any further signings the manager added: “ I put a seven day approach in for a player yesterday, and we are just waiting to hear back from his club. I am hopeful to add a new face to the squad tomorrow albeit too late to feature against Eastbourne.”
Kick off at The Dripping Pan for tomorrow's clash with Eastbourne is at 7.45pm, with the game being played to a finish on the night, extra time and penalties to decide the tie if necessary.
