Rooks take a taste of Lewes on their travels
02/12/11
Lewes Football Club and Harveys have announced an innovative new sponsorship deal called a 'Taste of Lewes'.
The idea came out of Rooks' fans love of the local beer and the fact that visiting fans at the Dripping Pan often comment on how great the Harveys is.
For the rest of this season, Rooks fans will be taking a free polypin (36 pints) of Harveys Best to all away games as a gift for their bar. The beer is then sold at a promotional price to the away club's fans, which of course also means that the bar will make a tidy profit on the free beer.
Harveys gains some valuable publicity for their website ordering service at www.harveysonline.co.uk thanks to specially printed beer mats that are delivered alongside the free polypin.
Commenting for Harveys, Shop Manager Ed Page (pictured) said: "It looks like we've got our very own export team, spreading the taste of Harveys outside of our usual catchment area. The Harveys Online Shop has got everything from a full range of beers to Harveys mugs and merchandise, so we're keen for people to visit and see for themselves. This promotion is designed to do just that."
Charlie Dobres, Board Director added: "Traditionally, football clubs go rather cap in hand to sponsors, but we are trying to design sponsorship deals for local companies that actually give them a business pay-back. Harveys have been great to Lewes Football Club, especially since we converted into a Community-Owned entity. So we wanted to come up with an idea that showed our support for them and could earn them some new customers."
