Lewes make progress in the FA Cup
25/9/10
Two virtually identical headed goals from Chris Breach saw Lewes safely into the 3rd Qualifying round of the FA Cup this afternoon.
Ryman North opponents Harlow Town, who have made a good start to their season brought a large and vocal contingent to the Dripping Pan hopeful of a shock result against the Rooks but it was the home side who were in control for much of the game.
Lewes had a number of chances, the best in the fifth minute when Rob Gradwell should have done better than hit the side netting from 3 yards, but the Rooks took the lead before half time with two goals in six minutes.
Two Simon Wormull corners were headed home by Chris Breach direct from the kick in the 32nd and 38th minute as Lewes took a comfortable lead into the interval.
Lewes were content to hold the lead in the second period and Harlow battled hard without really troubling the home defence.
The Rooks looked stronger with Tom Murphy alongside Gradwell, and the former Gillingham striker almost capped a fine display with a smart shot that Harlow keeper Rhys Madden did well to tip over.
Lewes await details of the 3rd Qualifying round draw on Monday, but travel to Hampshire next Saturday for a tricky league encounter against Farnborough.
