Lewes net first away win
10/4/10
A fine team performance this afternoon at St George's Lane saw Lewes secure their first away win of the season against Worcester.
It was a huge "six pointer" for both teams, but Steve Ibbitson's men were well prepared for the game which was always likely to have a big say in the final relegation place this season.
Lewes made a great start and went ahead in the 22nd minute when Rob Gradwell latched on to Rikki Banks' clearance to finish cooly past keeper Jake Meredith.
The Rooks were in control for most of the half, and a second goal from Steve Brinkhurst, capitalising on a defensive mix-up, was no less than the team deserved going into the break.
Worcester rattled the bar only a minute into the second period, but some sterling work kept them at bay until the 76th minute when Matt Birley outjumped Banks to give Worcester hope.
The visitors held on though and after well over the allotted four minutes of injury time, the referee signalled the end of the game and a hugely valuable three points for Lewes.
The Rooks now take on St Albans on Wednesday evening, kick off 7.45pm.
