Welling felled at the Dripping Pan

Lewes enjoyed their best performance since Boxing Day with a 3-1 win over in-form Welling.

With new loan signings Sami El-Abd and Robert Gradwell both in the starting eleven, Lewes looked a better side even before a ball was kicked and they kept up the tempo against a Welling side who came into the match on the back of a five match winning run.

The visitor's last game, a 7-1 demolition of Weymouth, seemed an age away as they struggled to make an impact with Joe Keehan putting Lewes ahead after 15 minutes.

Welling were gifted the chance to get back into the game when Anthony Barness gave away a penalty which Lee Clarke slotted past Banks.

Dean Cracknell was sent off just before half time after a bad challenge on Jack Walder, and the Rooks were able to capitalise by taking the lead in the 57th minute when Gradwell and David Wheeler combined for the winger to smash Lewes into the lead.

Ross Sutton saw red for a two-footed challenge, but this did little to upset Lewes' rhythm with Keehan scoring his second of the game, and 16th of the season in the 76th minute.

The Rooks are now five points behind Worcester with two games in hand, and nine points in front of Weston with one game in hand.

Easter Saturday sees Lewes travel to Woking, and host Bromley on Easter Monday.
