Stalemate at the Camrose

File (Embeded) - Basingstoke v Lewes Mar 10 melee

Lewes shared the points with Basingstoke this afternoon despite taking a fourth minute lead into half time.

Joe Keehan, deputising for the injured Chris Breach at centre back, gave Lewes an early lead when he rose at the far post to head home a corner.

There was little action of note for the rest of the first half as both teams struggled with a bobbly pitch.

Four minutes after the break, Basingstoke were level after Tom Williamson's lofty cross fell to Jide Ogunbote who was allowed to head the ball past Lewes keeper Rikki Banks.

Lewes upped their game in the second half following the introduction of Ross Sutton for the injured Tim Rivers, and a strong run by the substitute almost bought a goal following a prolonged attack but Jack Walder's eventual shot was high.

Banks tipped Ogunbote's lobbed shot over the bar but neither side was able to break the deadlock, with Louis Pople's wayward chip the closest Lewes came to scoring in the final minutes.

The Rooks are next in action at home to Havant and Waterlooville next Saturday 13th March, kick off 3pm.
