Relegation fears still haunt the Rooks

File (Embeded) - Lewes v Havant Mar 10

A fine second half performance from Havant & Waterlooville stunned Lewes this afternoon at the Dripping Pan, when they fell to a 3-0 defeat.

The Rooks marginally shaded the first half, with good chances falling to Ross Sutton and Anthony Barness, but the home side failed to cause any real danger to the Hawks defence.

The story after the break was a different one though, as Lewes shipped three goals in eleven minutes.

The first of these was a spectacular bicycle kick from Mustafa Tiryaki in the 67th minute, and six minutes later, former Rook Ian Simpemba rose above the defence to steer a powerful header past Rikki Banks from a corner.

Lewes had no answer as Havant kept the pressure on, and leading goalscorer Manny Williams was gifted the opportunity for his eighteenth of the season following a defensive mix-up, but he still finished with aplomb, his rising shot nestling high above Banks. Report

With the bottom five teams all losing today, there is no change to league positions. At the top, Newport County need only one point to clinch the league title after last night's victory over Bishop's Stortford, Lewes' hosts next weekend.

The Rooks are next in action on Tuesday night in the replayed Sussex Senior Cup tie at Hastings United. Admission is free to all supporters.
