Rooks lose on penalties in Senior Cup
09/2/10
Two more hours of football this evening still wasn't enough to separate Lewes and Hastings United in the Sussex Senior Cup, but United went through to the quarter finals having finally won on penalties.
Last week the teams drew 2-2 after extra time at the Dripping Pan, and the scoreline was the same at the end of normal time at the Pilot Field.
United went ahead through Sean Ray with Joe Keehan scoring his 12th goal of the season to bring the scores level in the 82nd minute.
Virtually from the kick off, Hastings took the lead again thanks to Ross Treleaven, only to see Chris Breach bring Lewes level again in the closing moments.
Kane Louis then put the Rooks in front in the first period of extra time, but Ade Olorunda's late equaliser forced the penalty shoot out, which United won 7-6.
Despite the result, a young Lewes side battled well, twice coming back from a goal down and manager Steve Ibbitson will be looking to his players to take the same determination with them down the M27 on Saturday when they are back in league action at Havant & Waterlooville.
