Havant breached in injury time

13/2/10

File (Embeded) - Havant v Lewes Breach scored

Man of the Match Chris Breach got the goal he and his team mates deserved this afternoon with a 94th minute equaliser at Westleigh Park.

Havant looked to be heading for their fifth straight home league win until Breach converted David Wheeler's late cross, but it was testament to the spirit and courage of this Lewes team who battled all the way and were the best side for much of the second period.

Havant took the lead in the 34th minute in controversial circumstances after the referee overruled his assistant by awarding the Hawks a corner which was headed in across goal by Gary MacDonald.

On the eve of Valentine's Day, the referee frequently handed out his own cards to the players in a game that was far from "dirty", and he walked off at the interval flanked by stewards after both managers attempted to discuss some of the finer points of his performance with him.

In the second half, the Rooks grew in confidence without dominating proceedings, but showed great commitment and dedication as they pushed for the equaliser.

Things were looking doubtful for Lewes but with five minutes of injury time announced, the Rooks pushed on and a seemingly lost cause was reversed when Breach slotted in from just inside the area with virtually the last kick of the afternoon.

Lewes have now come back from behind against Braintree and Havant in successive matches, and the players will need to reproduce the sort of performance they showed this afternoon again next Saturday, with second-placed Chelmsford next up at the Dripping Pan.
