Little joy for Lewes at Thurrock
28/12/09
Lewes failed to build on their spectacular Boxing Day result, suffering a 3-1 reverse at Thurrock this afternoon.
A good first half performance saw few chances for either side, as their contrasting styles cancelled each other out.
It was a different story after the break though, and Thurrock took a 52nd minute lead courtesy of Matt Bodkin.
Lewes showed that their determination hadn't left them since the Dover win when Jack Walder equalised just four minutes later, although Thurrock were back in the lead thanks to Leon Mckenzie on the hour.
Lewes continued to push forward for a second equalizer but left themselves exposed at the back and Mckenzie dealt the sucker punch in the 89th minute to leave the Rooks still seeking their first away win of the season.
The Rooks next travel to Dover on New Year's Day, who will undoubtedly be looking to avenge their Boxing Day embarrassment at the Pan.
