An unfortunate second minute own goal from Scott Manning was enough to give play-off chasing Eastleigh the win this afternoon in Hampshire.

Manning was only called into action after Andy Pearson suffered a hamstring injury in the warm-up, yet despite the early set-back, the youngster, and his team-mates, showed great maturity and commitment and certainly matched their opponents for much of the match.

Pearson joined Anthony Barness and Danny Cullip on the injury list, with Jack Walder, Dan Royce and Ryan Storrie all missing out serving suspensions.

Neither side created too many chances although Chris Breach was unlucky not to equalise in the second half when his header from a corner struck the angle of the goal. Joe Keehan and David Wheeler went close whilst sub Tim Rivers was denied by a last gasp challenge from Tom Jordan.

The game was played in a difficult wind and only took place thanks to some hard work from the Eastleigh ground staff and volunteer supporters who were forking the pitch right up until kick off.

Lewes hope to gain some early revenge when they retrace their steps back to Hampshire next Saturday for the FA Trophy tie against Eastleigh.
