Lewes are still without a win in the Blue Square South this season, losing 3-2 this afternoon at Weston-Super-Mare.

The Rooks travelled to Somerset hopeful that they could steal the points off the team lying one place and one point above them, but this looked unlikely in the 12th minute when Dave Gilroy, on-loan from Newport County put the Seagulls ahead.

Lewes continued regardless and were rewarded nine minutes before the break when Fred Foreman drew the sides level.

The visitors showed a marked improvement on their performance in their previous match at Wealdstone, playing some neat football at times but all too often losing possesion with sloppy passing against a side that certainly looked, and at times, played no better than Lewes.

The finishing of Gilroy was the difference between the teams though, and he slotted a killer-goal past Lewes keeper Rikki Banks only two minutes into the second half, and was allowed to claim his hatrick seven minutes later.

Despite the deficit, the young Lewes side pushed forward and created chances, only to see two hit the woodwork and one from Tim Rivers disallowed from a free kick awarded after the latest attempt to demolish David Wheeler, a tiresome scenario which Lewes supporters have to endure every single week.

The Rooks persistance paid off when Andy Pearson headed home in the last minute, but it was too little too late, and the shattered players at the end of the game knew that they had let another result slip through their fingers.
