Rooks' cup adventure ends
10/10/09
Lewes will play no further part in this season's FA Cup after a disappointing 3-0 defeat at Wealdstone.
For the second season running, the Rooks have gone out to lower league opposition, although the hosts showed exactly why they are riding high in the Ryman Premier Division with a fine display that had Lewes chasing shadows for much of the game.
The visitors went behind in the 4th minute after Chris O'Leary headed in at the near post from a corner, and another corner caused problems for Lewes in the 25th minute which saw Greg N'goyi blast home through a crowded area for a two goal half time lead.
Lewes conceded just 10 minutes after half time after Anthony Barness lost possesion just inside the Wealdstone half. O'Leary won the battle with Dan Royce as the two raced towards goal but Rikki Banks could only watch as the midfielder scored his second.
Banks put up his own one-man defence in the Lewes goal, spectacularly tipping two Wealdstone chances over the bar and saving Lewes from further embarrassment, but it won't be far for the Stones to travel on Monday to see the draw for the fourth round take place at Wembley stadium.
