No holiday joy for the rooks
31/8/09
Lewes completed a miserable bank holiday weekend this afternoon with a 3-0 defeat at Bromley.
Both sides were evenly matched initially, but after Aaron Dalhouse volleyed home a corner in the 28th minute, things looked a struggle for Lewes, who battled hard to make any work for the Bromley keeper.
With Dan Beck still missing through injury, Sam Crabb was supported by Joe Keehan who played in an advanced midfield role but the Rooks went further behind just after the hour when Warren McBean headed past Rikki Banks after a fortunate rebound when his initial shot bounced off the post.
The Rooks' best chance fell to Crabb who blasted over as he sped clear of the defence, but the striker later added his name to the injury list when he had to be substitued after a heavy challenge.
Bromley finished on top and Dalhouse was able to direct a sweet strike from 25 yards high above Banks' hopeful dive in the 88th minute.
Lewes' next fixture is a rather important one at the High Court on Wednesday as they aim to prevent a winding up order from the HMRC. Providing that is a positive result for the Rooks, Basingstoke Town are the visitors to the Dripping Pan next Saturday, kick off 3pm.
